I've Been Banned and Giveaway #4!

>> Tuesday, May 4, 2010

It's gotten to that point.  It's official.  I've been banned.

Before My Marine left for another weekend of training, I was told that I was not allowed to shop in any more craft stores, garage sales, or thrift stores.  Until I've completed at least 5 projects.

He thought he had the best of me.

He was wrong.

I took that as a challenge -- and thought, "Only FIVE projects?"  He really doesn't know me very well, does he?

He doesn't know that some of them, like the hair bows, t-shirts, and cards are ongoing projects.  There will never be an end to those.

What he didn't say was that they had to be BIG projects.  It just had to be ANY project.  (Cue evil laugh....)

So bring it on Marine.....bring it on!

Project #1 of 5 -- Painted Tiles.

Valerie, over at the Frugal Family Fun Blog, posted about this fantastic project - painted ceramic trivets.  (If you haven't visited, you really need to go visit Valerie! She has the GREATEST ideas for frugal family activities and crafts!)

So, I decided that this is what we were going to make the grandma's for Mother's Day. (Because you know they just eat this stuff up!)

I picked up the tiles at Lowe's for about .30 each.  I already had the paint and paintbrushes, so all we needed to do was find the time - which we did during Nudgie's nap.

Such concentration!!

Nani's finished tiles

Mommy's finished tiles

Once the paint was dry, I sprayed them with a couple coats of sealant and glued some cork onto the back.

So take that!!  One project down -- four to go!

Love the tile idea!!!

My favorite rainy day activity is making coffee filter art. Cheep and easy, and always have the supplies.
Take coffee filters, color with washable markers, spray with water, let the colors run and then dry. After they are dried the possibilities are endless.... butterflies, snowflakes, I've even made shirts to attach to an already colored coloring page.

How can the Marine have any problem with you spending such little money on tiles for a Mother's Day craft?? I would think that doesn't count as part of the ban!!

I love that idea...my kids want to decorate plant pots and plant flowers for my MIL but I love the tile idea too. I think I'm gonna have them do both!

My favorite rainy day craft activity would have to be baking cookies. I just love how the oven fills the house with warmth and then of course the sweet cookie smell. Not to mention that it kills a few hours, with rolling out the sugar cookie dough, cutting them out and decorating them!

BTW, I got your interview questions! I'll get them back to you tomorrow, if that's okay!

I love your daughter's painted tiles - the ones she did freestyle, the hears and rainbow are the best of all! What a great project, I shall have to remember that for when my daughter is a bit older.

On a rainy day what I like best to do with my daughter is paint - or rather she paints and I watch her little face as she concentrates so hard on what she is doing. She just loves anything art related and especially painting.

On rainy days, we march around the house singing The Ants Go Marching - that gets rid of some of the energy!

I've been banned, too - but I sneak stuff in. Scary! And if it's free, he doesn't complain...

We usually do lots of reading on rainy days, although some my boys don't mind spending out and playing.

I'm so glad you posted about the ceramic tiles! I've been wanting to know how to do these. Thanks.

Painting and baking are our favorite rainy day activities. Our most favorite would be finding new ways to decorate cupcakes

One of things we like to do on a rainy day is craft stuff. Today is a cold, wet rainy day where I am & she's playing with her play-doh right now.
