My Marine just recently had a birthday. We were a bit unsure of how to celebrate since he's usually never here for his birthday, so this one was pretty special!
Nani and I talked about what kind of cake to make for daddy. She, at first, wanted a helicopter cake -- after all, daddy IS a Blackhawk crew chief....so it's just natural that he have a helicopter birthday cake. Right? WRONG! Mommy don't do helicopters......at least not yet.
So after much consideration, we decided to make daddy a zoo cake. Now I have to say that the only thing I did was bake the cake and put the animals on the top. Nani did the rest all by herself - and I have to say - she did a FABULOUS job for being only 6 years old!

Carefully icing the cake!

Adding the "grass" (green sprinkles)

|
Adding the Kit-Kat fencing (you can slightly see the blue icing for the water pond too)

Completed cake and so proud of herself!

Enjoying an off-key serenading of Happy Birthday
